CAMERON’S ARC WINS PRESTIGIOUS FREDDIE AWARD

Fall 2008

Cameron’s Arc, the film the Lord Foundation produced with Dr. Goldstein and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), has been awarded a Freddie Award from the International Health and Medical Media Awards, beating out HBO’s Alive Day Memories: Home from Iraq and CNN’s VA Tech: One Last Shot. Needless to say, we are thrilled, gratified and hopeful that this additional recognition will help promote the film as a compelling and effective tool to train residents and medical professionals in how to provide effective care to families and children with life-limiting illness. Blyth Lord and Dr. Goldstein accepted the award at the Freddie Awards in Philadelphia on November 14th.

The Freddie Award is essentially the Oscar for medical media.

Of Cameron’s Arc, reknowned palliative care doctor, Dr. Arnold Gold says, Through Cameron’s Arc, a poignant and courageous family story, we witness an exemplary demonstration of humanism – by the family and the physician. Dr. Rick Goldstein, pediatrician, is a role model- mentor for compassionate care as he shares aloud his thoughts and feelings – a window into the best medical decision-making. Dr. Goldstein underscores that our patients and families must be at the center of every healthcare interaction; and how the healthcare system, which is often alienating, can be made to accommodate to their needs. This film demonstrates how a caring, respectful relationship between doctors and patients, can lead to better outcomes, even in the face of inevitable death. This film will inspire insight and kindle appreciation for the art of medicine – and would be beneficial to doctors at every stage of their professional experience…from medical student to veteran clinician.”
